We know hydrogen

We create the conditions for clean, quiet and uncomplicated hydrogen mobility without restrictions by building and operating a reliable, public hydrogen refuelling station network. Our task is challenging and motivating: We at H2 MOBILITY are working on emission-free mobility for people and goods. As the largest operator in Europe, we are building the hydrogen filling station infrastructure for Germany.

The basis for hydrogen mobility in Germany is in place! Now we are expanding on it.

We have achieved our first goal: the widest possible area coverage with hydrogen stations for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in seven German metropolitan areas (Hamburg, Berlin, Rhine-Ruhr, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich) and along the connecting trunk roads and motorways. At all stations, passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (vans) can refuel with 700 bar and a requirement of 5 kg (in some cases up to 8 kg) of hydrogen. Germany’s nearly 100 hydrogen filling stations already make it possible for more than 6 million people to clean hydrogen mobility without having to accept detours of more than 5 kilometres.
The year 2021 saw the transition from the strategic expansion of the hydrogen filling station infrastructure in 7 metropolitan regions and along connecting axes to further, demand-driven expansion. To ensure that the transition succeeds in the transport sector as well, we are expanding our existing infrastructure with 350-bar refuelling interfaces for buses, trucks and other commercial vehicles at strategically sensible locations. So within the 700-bar network, a 350-bar network is growing.

Founding history and investors

H2 MOBILITY Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2015 as a project company by six industrial companies with the aim of promoting hydrogen as an emission-free fuel in road transport. The founding companies of this project were Air Liquide, Daimler, OMV, Linde, Shell and TotalEnergies.

In 2022, the project company became a long-term, commercially oriented company. In a financing round in the same year, H2 MOBILITY was able to raise 110 million euros in capital for the further expansion of large hydrogen refueling stations for buses and trucks. Since then, the largest strategic investor has been the Clean H2 Infra Fund managed by Hy24. Hy24 is an international fund manager for the development of the global hydrogen economy. Other investments are held by Shell, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, Linde, Daimler Truck, EG Group and Hyundai.

Associated partners advising H2 MOBILITY are BMW, Honda, Tank & Rast, Toyota and Audi.
