Hydrogen ABC

  • Hydrogen as an element

Hydrogen can be used as an energy store, to help solve three major problems of our time: climate change, dependence on imported energy and finite fossil fuel reserves.

  • Hydrogen – a fuel and an energy store

Electric vehicles are powered by a fuel cell. Hydrogen reacts with oxygen to convert energy stored in the hydrogen into electrical energy, which is then used to drive the engine.

  • How does hydrogen get into the tank

Drivers of hydrogen vehicles don’t really have to adapt at all, when it comes to refuelling – just like driving.

  • Hydrogen world

Many research facilities, state associations and organisations are working on hydrogen – with respect to mobility, stationary usage or hydrogen transport. Here is a selection of some of them.

  • Safety

Hydrogen-powered vehicles are every bit as safe as conventional vehicles. The technology and materials used in hydrogen vehicles and refuelling stations do, however, have to meet extremely stringent requirements, as demonstrated by a number of standards institutes including the German TÜV in various procedures and crash tests conducted with hydrogen vehicles.
